The Manson Ensemble is the Royal Academy of Music's specialist contemporary music ensemble. Its first concert was at the Aldelburgh Festival in 1968, and it plays regularly at the Academy and in festivals around Britain. As well as working with student composers, the group has performed in the composer's presence works by Berio, Donatoni, Henze, Kagel, Kurtág, Lutoslawski, Messiaen, Nyman, Penderecki and Tippett. The Manson Ensemble works regularly with the London Sinfonietta, and has collaborated with student composers from the Academy and The Julliard School in New York. The Manson Ensemble Collaborated with the Birmingham Contemporary Music Group in a performance of Stockhausen's Tierkreis (Zodiac) as part of the 2009 Aldeburgh Festival.
