Musician / Composer / Producer of Dance
Ruoho Ruotsi is a composer and producer based in Seattle. His music is largely improvisatory in nature, nourished by interests in natural progressions, reverberant bass accents and inter-wreathed textural deployments. His sonic jaunts draw upon the visceral aesthetics of dub, techno, garage and impractical melodic leitmotifs of experimental electro-acoustics, fusing them into imaginative new musical opportunities. His music has been described by some as “vaporous”, “aching and expansive” and by others as a “wicked dub abstraction” or as “Jamaica-meets-Detroit with jazz legend Eric Dolphy at the helm”. In 2006, Ruoho Ruotsi won an international BBC Radio 1 remix competition, reshaping Steve Reich's seminal piece “Music for 18 Musicians”, leading to an appearance on Reich: Remixed, by Warner Bros. Records (Nonesuch). Ruoho Ruotsi has released 12" vinyl records on De'fchild Productions (San Francisco), Skor Records (Los Angeles) and done remixes for Adjunct Digital (Los Angeles), Auralism (San Francisco), Zero G Sounds (Boston), Thoughtless Music (Toronto) & Creaked Records (Switzerland). He has performed live at the Winter Music Conference (Miami), Decibel Festival (Seattle) as well as numerous underground venues across North America.
