Russ Beatty and His Orchestra was a big band that played dances throughout the Riverside - San Bernardino, California area in 1949. Russ joined the US Air Force in 1950 and played in USAF bands until he retired in 1974. While in the Air Force, Russ frequently played side jobs in civilian bands and combos at various night clubs, hotels, private events and NCO and Officer Clubs. He then taught music in the San Juan Unified School District in Sacramento County, California until he retired in 2004. From 1982 until 2002 Russ played 1st alto sax in the American River Symphonic Concert Band. From 1975 until 2006 Russ played with the George Bruno Orchestra throughout northern California. He was also a side man in several other bands in the Sacramento area and was a frequent performer at area Oktoberfests and Fasching parties. He also gave private lessons. Russ Beatty played alto, tenor and baritone saxophone as well as clarinet and flute.
