A.k.a. Donald Russell Connor
D. Russell Connor (the name variation he used for his various books) was an avid collector, discographer and good friend to clarinetist Benny Goodman. Connor was one of the pioneers of jazz bio-discographies, especially with his comprehensive look at the sessions, broadcasts and live performances of the jazz bandleader, going into detail about musicians, songs and details about tours and events leading up to a particular date. Among his published books are BG--On The Record, Benny Goodman: Listen To His Legacy (The Scarecrow Press, 1988) and Benny Goodman: Wrappin' It Up (The Scarecrow Press, 1996). Connor was a graduate of Ursinus College and he did postgraduate work at the University of Pennsylania and the University of Paris. He retired from his position as vice president of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia in 1984 to focus on writing his Goodman bio-discography updated volumes. He also collaborated with various labels assisting in documenting personnel and dates, along with writing liner notes, for various Goodman releases of historical recordings. Russ Connor was born in 1921 and died in 2014.
