According to the liner notes of Traditional Music At Newport 1964 Part 1, the organizers of the Newport Folk Festival invited this group to perform after hearing them sing at Fairview Congregational Church outside Hackleburg, Alabama, and their trip to Newport was organized by Lloyd Wood.
