Band,
Singer of Folk
Salute to the Salmon is a band based in Seattle, consisting of Yex (vocals, ukulele, electric ukuele, et al) and Haley Ryan Williams (melodica, inspiration). Founded in 2012 in Olympia, Washington, they initially played a strain of twee folk, influenced by bands like Watercolor Paintings, Tinyfolk, and Madeline Eva, as well as broader indie and folk influences like Beat Happening, Woody Guthrie, and Syd Barrett. Over time, their sound has strayed somewhat from these roots, become more electric, and more psychedelic, and in the process forging a unique sound. Lyrically, their songs deal range from sentimental love ballads to shamanic explorations of the otherworld - sometimes at the same time.
