American pianist, composer, and musical director (September 12, 1896, Mexico City, Mexico - January 11, 1964 Los Angeles, CA, USA). Immigrated with his parents to the United States in 1908 and finished high school in Detroit. In 1921, he moved to New York, from there around the mid-1920s to Los Angeles, where he worked as musical director for KMTR radio and occasionally for the movies. For example, Santaella played the piano solos for the 1932 movie "The Man Who Played God."
