World, Pop and Folk
Born on September 27, 1944, Kapu Jr. is the son of baritone vocalist Sam Kapu, and father of Sam Kapu III. Kapu Jr. received his start as a replacement radio DJ for Don Ho, and his affiliation with Ho would remain until Ho's passing in 2007. Both Kapu and Ho appeared in the "Hawai'i Bound" episode of THE BRADY BUNCH in 1972, where they sang "Sweet Someone". Kapu Jr. continued recording and performing, and returned to radio in the early 1990's on KINE-FM in Honolulu. He held his on-air position for 17 until he announced his retirement, but still makes special appearances on the radio to keep fans aware of the self-proclaimed "Kapahulu Common Mango".
