Sam founded and ran Traffic Street Records until 2011, when his heroin problem spun out of control. After two years in rehab, he re-emerged with the name "Sammy thrashLife" and a new identity as a painter. These days, he focuses on his own art, selling mostly in galleries, but is still tied to the DIY pop punk scene through the occasional record or t-shirt design.
