Album US 2007 on Andante label
Classical (Neo-Classical)
Japan-for-U.S. original CD issue on Andante (a currently inactive division of Varèse Sarabande!), which was simultaneously released on the parent label as well, with a different catalog number (VCD 47211), and seems to be the sole example of an aborted effort to launch a series of CD classical releases under a separate imprint, instead of under the imprint of the parent label, which was better known for soundtrack and score releases. The release features a series of American neo-classical works, all performed by the Pacific Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Keith Clark, and the packaging includes an eight-page booklet with detailed liner notes about the included works and composers, a brief biography of the soloists for the "Capricorn Concerto," and a brief technical note concerning the recording on the interior pages; and color front and back covers, the former featuring a reproduction of "Hailstorm," a painting by Thomas Hart Benton, along with album contents; and the latter featuring a brief biography of both the conductor and the orchestra, as well as a note thanking Ernst Jechart Productions, the benefactor of the Pacific Symphony American Music Series. (The packaging also notes that the included recording of "Saga Of The Prairies" was the only available one -- at least, at the time! -- and that the "Overture -- From The Third Orchestral Set" was a world premiere recording at the time, as well. Also, the title is given as "American Composers: Music Of Barber, Copland And Ives" on the back of the inlay card, but as "Music Of Barber, Copland, Ives" on the spine -- the former is more descriptive, and since the latter was probably abbreviated in order to fit on the spine, the former has been used as the official title for the release. Finally, the catalog number for this release as provided in the packaging doesn't match the number in the matrix area/mirror band on the CD [as listed in the Barcodes & Identifiers section!], for whatever reason ...)
