Sappho (Attic Greek Σαπφώ; Aeolic Greek Ψάπφω) was an Ancient Greek poet, born on the island of Lesbos. Her birth was approximately around 630-610 BC, and her death around 570 BC. The bulk of her poetry has been lost, but her immense reputation has endured since antiquity through a few surviving fragments. The terms Sapphic and Lesbian came to be associated with female homosexuality.
