A.k.a. Maki Fujii, Hisashi Imai, Raymond Watts
Maki Fujii and Hisashi Imai originally conceived Schaft as a one-off monikor for a track a compilation in 1991. After a few sporadic live performances, they decided to bring in several guest collaborators (most prominently Raymond Watts of Pig and KMFDM) to record a full album in 1994. Collaborations with popular English artists such as Autechre, Coil, and Meat Beat Manifesto brought a cult following to the project. Fujii and Imai would go on to use the Schaft name on sporadic occasions when collaborating or appearing live together over the years, but the next full Schaft album and tour wouldn't arrive until 2016.
