Schola Cantorum of Oxford is a British chamber vocal ensemble, founded in 1960 by László Heltay as Collegium Musicum Oxoniense and associated with the University of Oxford. The choir comprises around 30 singers (mostly Oxford students) under the direction of James Burton (4). One of the longest standing chamber choirs in the UK, Schola Cantorum had been touring in Argentina, China, France, Italy, Israel, Malta, Mexico, Spain and other countries. In September 2014, they visited the USA for the first time since the late-eighties, performing across New York, Connecticut, Philadelphia, Kentucky, Tennessee and Georgia states. The group has collaborated with many prominent musicians and conductors, including former patrons Sir Michael Tippett and Yehudi Menuhin, Leonard Bernstein, Gustav Leonhardt, Sir Colin Davis, Mark Elder (2), and Sir Neville Marriner. Schola Cantorum gave an opening concert with Thierry Escaich at the Fifth Masevaux International Organ Festival. In 2012, they performed Roméo et Juliette by Hector Berlioz at the Royal Festival Hall (broadcasted on BBC Radio 3), later giving another concert at Théâtre des Champs-Élysées in Paris. The choir also appeared with the Orchestra Of The Age Of Enlightenment and Adam Fischer (2) during the Haydn's Creation premiere at the Royal Festival Hall in January of 2013.
