Scissor Pretty was formed in 1995 by students at Adelaide University, in South Australia. Their sound grew from the pretty goth pop heard on their early demo tapes and to some extent on their first CD, "Are You Home?", into the sparse down-tempo, sometimes trip-hop influenced sound heard on later releases. After Scissor Pretty split Melissa Iocco moved to Tasmania, Matthew Brooke to London, and Ben Macklin, Peter Gravestock, and Owen Eszeki moved to Melbourne with their other band, Bit by Bats. In 2008 / 2009 Ben Macklin was live drummer for Brillig.
