In 1979 Richard Scott Rusch began making noise out of high school, playing guitar in a punk rock band from Port Huron, Michigan called The Decline. Influenced by artists like Dome, Throbbing Gristle, SPK, MB, and Whitehouse, he started recording under the name Screw Machine (the name coming from his factory job as a screw machine operator). After meeting Lon C Diehl, the two formed S/M Operations. They soon formed (with Carl Nordstrom) the pioneering American Industrial band Hunting Lodge. The moniker was was revived after 29 year in 2011.
