Band, 1999-2003 GB, Brighton
Alternative
British emo punk band. Following a migration to Brighton over the winter of 97/98 the five members of Scuttle hooked up through mutual friends and the local free press. Those five: Steve (vocals) Gareth (guitar) Rich (bass) Matt (drums) Rob (guitar) set about throwing their individual influences at each other in an attempt to build something fulfilling and with some meaning behind it. After looking beyond pop-core and straight-edge screaming, the light at the end of the tunnel was noticeable. Armed with a demo for a boat they set sail towards the stormy seas of rock where they encountered supports with US bands like Down By Law, Shelter and Elliott as well as occasional ram-raid visits to Europe, helped along the way by numerous singles and compilation appearances. Shortly after hooking up with Firefly Recordings the band released their "Testing the Strength of the Surface" mini album and waved goodbye to rock-fearing guitarist Rob in favour of new man Burton. With another glut of shows under their belt Scuttle are raising their goat horns and chalice's of blood towards the future.
