Band,
Rock and Reggae
Shaggydog is a band established in Sayidan a comfy and peaceful riverside district in the heart of Yogyakarta. On 1st of June 1997, the band lineup; Heru, Richard, Raymond, Bandizt, Lilik & Yoyo' agreed to call their music with "Doggy Stylee"; a blend of various elements of music such as ska, reggae, jazz, swing, rock n ' roll, and even rock, specially mixed by these six bartenders. Cherry Poppin Daddies, Hepcat, Bob Marley, Long Beach Dub Allstars are just a few of Shaggydog's influences. What about the rest? The bitterness and sweetness of life become their inspiration. As time passed by, they carried out numerous shows, one after another. In 1999 Shaggydog's first album was released. Under the label Doggy House (Shaggydog management), the album entitled “SHAGGYDOG” surprisingly resulted in fruitful achievement. 20,000 copies were sold out. It is quite a remarkable sales for an indie band. Since then, Shaggydog started having constant shows all across the country...from Java all the way to Lombok...to the extent that they were willing to leave their college. Two years later, in 2011, the second album entitled “BERSAMA” (TOGETHER) was released. Just letting you know, this album was produced with every single drip of sweat and tears. Their manager's motorcycle had to end up in a pawn shop to cover the expenses. Not only that, the recording that took place in Bandung (West Java, emptied their pocket fast and there was no choice but to try their luck as street musicians to earn some cash by performing on the street of Dago...What a life, Man!! 2003 was the “Lucky Year” for Shaggydog. Kicked off with a New Year Party gig at Jogja National Development University (UPN) where not less than 20,000 Doggies flooded the dance floor and danced along with Shaggydog, followed by carrying out eight city tours (Semarang, Solo, Tegal, Salatiga, Purwokerto, Pekalongan, Jogja, Magelang) from March to May. The numerous shows, massive fanatic fans base, cheerful tunes and naughty lyrics are several factors affecting Shaggydog's success. Having had an ample stock of on hand materials, Shaggydog teamed up with EMI Indonesia in a collaborative effort promoting their music to wider audience. This collaboration eventually led to Shaggydog's third album release entitled “HOT DOGZ”. If you keep your ears wide open...your nerve wouldn't be able to resist the temptation to follow the rhythms of the songs! Shaggydog's songs are not only well-known across Indonesia but also in Japan. In 2003 a Japan-based record company requested one of Shaggydog's songs to be included in "ASIAN SKA FOUNDATION" compilation album joined by various bands from all over Asia. Unfortunately, the compilation project is only marketed in Japan. The song “Second Girl” was chosen by Shaggydog to participate in the compilation. The lengthy journey and a motley obstacles accompanied Shaggydog career have encouraged the personnels to make a determined effort to sharpen their fangs in Indonesian music industry. With an increasingly evolving musicality skills, they showed that they didn't only hope to be accepted by music lovers in Indonesia, but also in the whole world, and at once to heat up the competition in the music industry.
