Between 1988 and 1991 Shane attended Indiana University studying classical recording techniques, graduating as an Associate of Science in Audio Technology. He then moved to Nashville, working with many top engineers from whom he continued to learn, until 1995, when Charlie Peacock offered him a position as his overdub engineer, then progressing onto tracking and mixing. In 1997, Charlie Peacock's company restructured, leaving Shane to pursue a career as an independent engineer.
