Artist Portrait

Shane Faubert

g, voc, US
Singer of Rock

Shane Faubert is an American singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist known chiefly for having formed the garage-pop band, the Cheepskates. The Cheepskates became popular in the mid-eighties with the song "Run Better Run", composed by Shane Faubert. This song was self-released in autumn 1983 as single and received immediate attention from college and underground radio stations. In 1984 the single is reissued with different cover and their first album was titled after the single "Run Better Run" and was released by the New York based Midnight Records. The Cheepskates' next album "Second and Last" was released in 1986 on the Midnight Records label, but this time to little notice. In 1987, Shane Faubert re-formed The Cheepskates as a trio, they signed with the German Music Maniac label, for which they recorded three studio albums, one live in Germany lp and two EPs before disbanding permanently. Shane Faubert continued to record as a solo artist with 3 albums realised by Music Maniac again. In 1990 Shane went back to Dubway Studios in New York for a series of sessions that were ultimately released as his first solo lp "Kalkara". "San Blass" (1993) and "Squirrelboy Blue" (1997) were subsequently produced by Gary Pig Gold and Shane Faubert. After a silence of fifteen years Shane Faubert recorded a new album, again writing and singing all of the songs as well as playing all of the instruments. With this album Shane turns a bit more toward a uniquely intimate folk-pop sound, but with his trademark voice and melodic instincts intact. Like many of his American contemporaries, Shane chooses to have his music released by European labels, and this one is due to be released on vinyl and CD in december 2013 by the French label Bam Balam .
