Indian tabla player, born in 1921 in Benares, died in 1994 in Pune, from the Benares tabla gharana. He is the father and teacher of Pandit Kumar Lal Mishra. In 1942, with 21, he participated in his first major music conference in Allahabad with great success. From that moment on until his death, Pandit Shanta Prasad performed all over India as a soloist and as an accompanist. He also played tabla in many Hindi films. He was awarded the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award in 1979, and the Padma Bhushan in 1991.
