Indian sitar and surbahar virtuoso, music teacher and author of numerous book on North Indian classical music. He was born in Shahjahanpur, Uttar Pradesh. His musical training began 1970 in Delhi with the sarod master Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan and after his passing away continued with his master's son Ustad Amjad Ali Khan. Like his teachers Sharafat Khan is an exponent of the Senia gharana. His performing career started 1973. In 1986 he moved to Singapure to promote Indian classical music and culture and lectured at several universities. In 1998 he founded the Indian Classical Music Centre, Singapure.
