Musician / Composer of Jazz
Sharon Freeman is a jazz pianist and French hornist. She also writes musical arrangements.Freeman played French horn for the jazz opera Escalator over the Hill, Gil Evans's 1973 album Svengali, and in 1983 she worked on a piece of jazz Christmas music. Since 1982 she is a member of Charlie Haden's Liberation Music Orchestra, of which she is the current Musical Director. She recently can be heard on the LMO's anti-Iraq-war jazz album Not in Our Name Freeman has also worked and recorded with further jazz musicians such as Frank Foster, Charles Mingus, Don Cherry, Muhal Richard Abrams, David Murray, and Lionel Hampton. She has also been musical director for Don Pullen and for Beaver Harris' 360 Musical Experience.
