Album US 1994 on JVC label
World (Religious)
This is a rare recording of the Mieku ceremony - a Buddhist memorial service for the dead - as observed by the Shingon sect, and incorporating the Buddhist ceremonial music, Shomyo, which is over 2,000 years old. In this performance, recorded at the Okunoin temple on Mount Koya in 1993, an exceptional world overtone has been created by the priests' voices chanting the esoteric scriptures. A part of the JVC World Sounds series Date of recording: 21 July, 1993 Place of recording: Kongōbu-Ji Temple on Mount Kōya, Nara In cooperation with the National Institute of Multimedia Education ℗ & © 1994 VEI
