Musician
Simon began his musical training as a chorister at Durham Cathedral, where he learned piano, organ and trumpet in addition to singing. He read music at Edinburgh University, studying orchestration and composition with Kenneth Leighton, Edward Harper and James MacMillan, and went on to complete his Ph D in early English church music at Durham University. Throughout his studies the lure of pop music was always hard to resist, and piano work in restaurants and bars, as well as with a Beatles tribute band, kept him in beer. He sang for his supper as a countertenor in cathedral choirs both at St Mary's Edinburgh and Durham (where his claim to fame is singing backing vocals on a Tina Turner track). Simon stumbled happily on Audio Network in 2005 where he is now Director of Publishing so he bribes his colleagues to recommend his tracks to customers.
