Producer
A.k.a. Monsoon Sinrib
Liner notes writer, compiler and (executive) producer. Mainly for works by Deep Purple and associated solo acts. First started writing about Purple as publisher of Deep Purple Appreciation Society, firstly as a newsletter, later as a magazine entitled "Darker Than Blue." Interesting fact: Simon Robinson is the person who saved the extraordinary Deep Purple's original master tape collection, valued at up to £1 million. The entire Deep Purple's archive of early recordings – some 250 master tapes, dating from 1968-76, featuring original albums, live tracks, rarities and out-takes, was being kept in leaking EMI warehouse where the door was left unlocked all day. Simon simply asked the band’s managers if he could look after it properly. And the management company agreed. So the entire Deep Purple's master tapes archive have been stored in an old Sheffield grain store since 1985 to 2012. After the death of both the band’s former managers the tapes have been returned to the estate of the firm as agreed. And now EMI store the tapes at a dedicated facility at Abbey Road Studios. “It’s nice to know I’ve done my bit and helped preserve the originals,” says Simon.
