(Note on the back of the CD by Adrian Sherwood) Greetings; This CD features recordings from the first four Singers & Players LPs and early 10" singles from 1980-1983. It was hoped that Singers & Players would enable the individual vocalists and musicians to record and tour under the Singers & Players banner, and thereby avoid over recording themselves (a classic finacial problem) and at the same time try to create something of a reggae 'supergroup'. In September 1983 PRINCE FAR I was shamelessly murdered at his home in Kingston, Jamaica. His lyrics were predominantely chants of praise, but he dealt with injustice and also made some of the funniest records I have ever heard. On the little disc are constructive lyrics and solid rhythms, recorded in London under duress more than anything else. In 1988 the fifth Singers & Players LP "VACUUM PUMPING" (ON-U LP39), was released after a five-year gap. It still features many of the musicians from this CD and original vocalist, BIM SHERMAN, along with some new artists. Sadly for me it misses the spirit and hope captured in those earlier songs, but it's now 1989 (or whatever year you're in) and we are trying to make a 'follow-up' to this. Long life & best wishes.
