1-14 from "Tressel" cassette (self-released). 16-22 from "Water Machine" cassette (self-released). 23, 25-27 previously unreleased. 16, 20, 24 also appeared on Six Cents And Natalie 7" on Harriet Records. 9 also appeared on In A Lonely Place 7" on Four Letter Words. 1 also appeared on The Long Secret CD compilation on Harriet Records. 10 re-recorded by Crayon and appeared on Brick Factory on Harriet Records. "This CD compiles the first two Six Cents and Natalie cassettes, "Water Machine" and "Tressel". "Water Machine" was recorded during the Fall of 1991 in my studio apartment in Bellingham, WA. "Tressel was recorded in Summer of 1992 at a beach house I rented on Steamboat Island, WA. Both tapes were recorded one track at a time, straight to cassette (no 4-track). I used a 1987 JVC cassette deck, a walkman, and a two track Radio Shack mixer. As you can hear at times the tape hiss was pretty loud, but all in all the system worked out pretty well. These are some of the first recordings I ever made, and I must admit some of them are kind of embarrassing to me now. Most of these songs were experiments in song writing. With that said, if nothing else this collection documents a period when the bedroom rock revolution was in full swing, Beat Happening still made records, and we couldn't wait for the next Shrimper tape compilation to come out.
