Band,
Bassist/singer Ian Kane and drummer Daniel Cate, both classically trained composers, met at Oberlin's prestigious Conservatory of Music. Daniel had never played a drum set before he started backing up guitarist/singer David Rees, who cut his teeth playing punk rock in his hometown of Chapel Hill. This tension between the subtlety of art music and the edginess of punk is responsible for the instantly recognizable sound of the Skeleton Killers. Cult heroes in Boston, the Skeleton Killers have developed a fiercely loyal fan base hungry for alternatives to the hard rock and pop-punk dominating the local scene. The Skeleton Killers exist somewhere between the crooning balladry of Chris Isaak and the abrasive abstractions of Slint. Think of Nina Simone using Polvo as her arrangers and you'll get an idea of the fractured romantic sensibilities at work. "With just a guitar, bass, and drum kit, the Skeleton Killers craft lounge tunes so cool and creepy you'll be amazed David Lynch hasn't tapped them for his next project." -The Boston Globe YEARS ACTIVE 1994 – 2005
