Single US 1997 on Eef 'N' Bee Hoe Records label
Alternative (Punk, Alternative Rock)
The cover is a fully-playable fold-out board game in the style of Chutes & Ladders. The theme of the game is 'life on the road as a touring band,' with squares that read things such as, "You don't know everybody in the crowd. Advance two spaces, " and "Welcome to Texas. Lose a turn." The board-game, itself, is a lot of fun. The music on the record is as well. The Doosies song, "Amateur Night" is a riff-heavy rocker reminiscent of Weezer meets Jimmy Eat World. Slept, on the other hand, is hard to categorize. "The Map" features dense lyrics, time-changes, syncopated drumming, and is reminiscent of Mission of Burma. "Sugarcube" is an odd song that begins with singer, Aaron Sarlo, telling R2-D2 to "go fuck yourself" for some reason before launching into a poppy prog-rock anthem.
