A.k.a. Earl Smith "Smitty" Gatlin

Reorganized The Oak Ridge Quartet and change the name to Oak Ridge Boys to "make the name seem more youthful. He left the band in 1967 to become music director of the First Baptist Church in Fort Worth, Tx. Latter he the Smitty Gatlin Singer. He passed away in 1972.
