Sola Veneño was a moniker used by New York-based singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and producer John McDonnell. Musically active since 2009, he has recorded and performed under a variety of different aliases, and was briefly a member of a few local bands, but was unsigned until he joined Bye-Product's then netlabel MrHappyFace Records in 2011, under the Louse Detection name. After releasing a full-length album and a couple of tracks for compilations on the label, he shifted his focus to his plunderphonics outlet Dawktah by the end of the year, and has since released an EP, two singles, and a full-length album on Sirona-Records. John discontinued his use of the Louse Detection alias in 2013, embarking on a new project first going by Nematomas, then using Sola Veneño until September 2017 when he changed it to Johnny Ether.
