Sound Of Eleven

Formed in late 2015, Sound of Eleven sought to re-define and expand the genre of apocalyptic folk. Influenced by folk legends of the past like Leonard Cohen and Sibylle Baier, as well as the more contemporary Death In June and Current 93, S11 goes beyond the traditional sounds of neo-folk, adding elements of darkwave, industrial, and eerie, ambient soundscapes. Sound of Eleven started as a studio collaboration between long-time friends and ex-band mates Tony Hamera (guitar and programs) and Matthew Cross (drums) as a purely creative endeavor. As soundscapes were developing, vocalist Katherine Hinote and guitarist/songwriter Chris Emmerson were brought in to expand further on the sound- Hinote providing her somber, haunting vocals and Emmerson penning lyrics to match- touching upon themes of war, totalitarianism, and post-apocalyptic futurism. A year later, their debut album, No Artist/No Name, was realized - a haunting melange of acoustic elements mixed with synthesizer, industrial noise, and ethereal vocals. Hamera, Hinote and Emmerson are now joined by Bernie Eldred on bass and Bryan Talaski on drums.
