Musician / Composer of Hip-Hop/Rap and Jazz
British jazz saxophonist, rapper, and composer. Born: 10 January 1978 in London, England, UK. Soweto is a British born & raised saxophone player with a strong jazz background. He is largely self-trained too, though he had help and drew inspiration from the influential player/band leader Courtney Pine, also as a young 13 year old teenager a chance meeting with Wynton Marsalis gave focus to the young musical mind. Luckily for listeners, he also loves and understands hip-hop enough to be a proficient rapper too. Mix the two together and we have one hell of a performer here. His jazz album "Conversations With The Unseen" (2003) received such critical acclaim, it was even nominated for the British artists prestigious Mercury Music Prize in 2003. And he also featured on BBC Four TV as part of the "Jazz Britannia" series doing an excellent track "Jazz Planet".
