Ultramajic is set to launch its 10th record into the musical ether with a celestial four-track EP from Spatial. In 2008, the London-based producer inaugurated his own Infrasonics imprint with a record that melded UK bass sounds into floor-minded styles like techno and garage. He's also prowled into the depths of spaced-out and abstract sonics as Primitives, his performance-based audio/visual project. On his Ultramjic debut, the Circlon EP, Spatial effortlessly traverses disparate realms of the house universe, from dazzling bombs with glittering synth blip melodies to rigidly syncopated stompers embellished with ragga vocals. On "Circlon," a compact kick plows through swells of sub bass and twinkling bleep-bloop keys. Sparkling melodies also appear on "Eloptic Energy," but they're pushed into the background by taut acid basslines and curt percussion. "Recover" is brighter and bushier; simple chord stabs are slipped between a relentless hi-hat and a yo-yoing vocal snippet. "Sufani" is the most barebones of the bunch, with cockeyed synth bursts that tumble over waves of white noise, muffled speech, and a booming beat.
