Artist Portrait

Spatula

Band,
Rock and Spoken Word

In 1990 Screamer was recording his 2nd album, "My Dads Alive... And Hes Gonna Take It Some More", which was named after an 80s Ohio rock act called "My Dad Is Dead", who's album was called "And I Can't Take It Anymore". During the recording a friend of Screamer's, Larissa, was recruited to sing "The Absurd Man". This song was also released on the cassette single "Single Thee Screamer" in 1990, alongside 2 other songs with Larissa on vocals. The idea of Screamer recruiting various female vocalists to record on his instrumentals later materialized into the band Spatula, named after the song that preceded "The Absurd Man" on Screamers 1990 album. Larissa returned to sing on their debut "Spatula 1". They also released "Spatula 2" (with Kristine on vocals) and "Spatula 3" (with Sade on vocals), all in 1991. In 2013 all 3 Spatula tapes, and the "Single Thee Screamer" tape that preceded it were all released on the "Spatula" compilation album.
