Spective

GB
Producer of Dance
A.k.a. James B Platt

Liquid Drum & Bass, Dubstep and HipHop producer from Bristol / Exeter , Britain (UK) influenced by classic jazz, funk and soul Performing and making music for many years, I really got into digital music production back in early 2010. I take a lot of my influences from 60s, 70s & 80s Jazz, Funk & Soul, 90s Hip-Hop and contemporary Drum & Bass. James's first experience with music came with a fairly unsuccessful attempt to learn the piano around the age of 9. Three years later, he took up the drums and soon found himself playing in punk rock and ska funk bands throughout school and university. His solo projects began when he took up the guitar and recorded acoustic and instrumental rock/indie music, before making the transition to digital. In April 2010 the Spective project was born after James found himself heavily immersed in liquid drum & bass. After working steadily away on tunes, 8 months later his first demo was signed by Stepping Forward Records. The 'Yesterdays EP' was released on June 8 2011 showcasing Spective's trademark jazzy sounds and soulful vibes. On May 11th 2012, Spective's 2nd EP, entitled 'Future Music UK', was released on Liquid Drumz as part of the 'Future Music' series. The EP draws together summery soulful sounds of days gone by and the futuristic vibes of modern drum & bass. On 6th July 2012 Spective's 3rd EP, 'Stars at Night' was released on Dooh! Records. Chilled out jazzy sounds, slick breaks and ambient melodies all combine to create a smooth and soulful listening experience. 2013 sees several new releases building upon and expanding this sound into new directions. A fan of diverse genres of music, James has always sought to integrate a range of influences into his creations. On May 27th cheeky, bass heavy track 'Gettin' Down' was featured on Liquid Tones 'Summer Breeze' EP. Forthcoming in June on Liquid Tones 'Sands of Time' EP is 'Nocturne', a fast paced, melody driven piece perfect for those late summer nights. Summer 2013 saw the release of Spective's 4th EP entitled 'Skipping Stones' on Liquid Tones, which peaked at number 9 on the Juno Drum & Bass charts.
