Stambordet started as an acoustic trio (guitar, bass, banjo) in 2005 by Jarle Obrestad, Trond Gudmestad and Erlend Aasland. After a couple of months, Jarle wanted to incorporate hardingfele and use traditional Norwegian folk music in a bluegrassy setting. As a result, the band soon expanded to a sextet. In 2009 mandolinist Atle Kvia quit, and per May 2009, Stambordet consists of: Christoffer Aasland: double bass, backing vocals Dag Bjørkedal: hardingfele Erlend Aasland: banjo, backing vocals Jarle Obrestad: acoustic guitar, lead vocals Trond Gudmestad: resonator guitar Stambordet mostly plays traditional songs from Bjerkreim (Rogaland) in their own acoustic arrangements, but they also play original compositions by the band members.
