Spoken Word and Soundtrack (Musical, Theme, Promotional)
Omaha! (a parody of Oklahoma!) was written and recorded by Stan Freberg, for the Butter-Nut Foods Co. It was essentially an extended commercial for Butter-Nut Coffee, with aspects recut for radio play. In the summer of 1958, Stan approached Butter-Nut Coffee with an idea for an extended radio commercial [the story behind it is related in his autobiography, "It Only Hurts When I Laugh"] and got one prominent radio station in Los Angeles to initially carry the ad. It was a success, and Stan rerecorded it for Capitol (Capitol EAP 1-1101), omitting the plugs for the coffee itself. (Thank you, Barry I. Grauman) Locked grooves between each of the 3 tracks on Side 2, making it ideal for commercial radio play.
