"The Stanford Men's Glee Club is unique in the history of collegiate choral singing. Performing with fifty singers, two pianists, a twenty-one piece stage orchestra, a barbershop octet, a seven-man jazz combo and soloists of every description, this versatile and stunning organization has delighted and captivated audiences everywhere it has appeared. The club travels easily, and has given forty off-campus concerts from Sacramento to San Diego in the past two years. While only light music is featured in this album, the club repertory includes choral masterpieces from every musical era. At a Stanford Glee Club concert one may expect to hear Palestrina or Lassus, Bach or Handel, Bartok, Hindemith or Copland, Folk songs, spirituals and novelty tunes are represented, and a liberal sprinkling of the Broadway show tunes which are featured in the present recording. The wide scope of sounds and styles insure an evening of exciting entertainment. Director Robert MacKinnon holds degrees in music from the University of Kansas and Yale University. He is a singer, clarinetist, conductor, arranger and composer. He has arranged many of the show tunes contained herein."
