Stanley Stepanic is a professor from the University of Virginia who was classically trained in piano from a young age. While in high school, he worked with Joshua Kosker (eventually a guitarist for The Juliana Theory) in a noise rock band called War that released two cassettes and disbanded when the two separated during college. As an undergraduate, with local friends in Latrobe and Derry PA, he formed a satirical death metal band called Peppermint Kids that released two albums and toured the PA metal circuit with bands like AxCx. Later, as a graduate student, he went on to form the satirical noise rock band Comparative Anatomy with friend Addison Dodds from 2009 until 2011. From this band he went on to perform vocals until 2016 for the doom/sludge band Beldam, writing the lyrics and singing on their first album, which was recorded in 2015. He left the band in 2016. Stepanic was also the former owner of the now-defunct label Mind Flare Media, which was later merged with another business, Deaf Sparrow. He is currently the owner and editor of Deaf Sparrow, an underground magazine and limited-release label located in Charlottesville, Virginia.
