Steve Paul was born on April 28 1941 and grew up in the Bronx, the son of a high school principal. He opened The Scene at 46th Street and Eighth Avenue in his early 20s, using money he had saved up while working as a publicist. In 1973 Paul started Blue Sky Records. He died on October 21, 2012.
