Steve McEown

Songwriter, Orilla, Ontario, Canada Steve McEown is a well respected In Focus documentary producer for Rogers TV. He has successfully launched documentaries such as Beating the Bully, Orillia Opera House, War at Home, After The Crash, Raising the Spirit, and Seeking Shelter. His care, compassion and ability to tell a story through his camera lens, has afforded him many nominations and awards. After attending 2 years at Ryerson University in the Radio and Television Arts program Steve went on to pursue a musical career as one half of the duo Even Steven. While performing in the area with Even Steven, Steve volunteered to produce a music series for then Trillium Cable 10 and was subsequently hired as a full time producer. Boyhood friends Steve McEown and Steve Eyers, both born and raised in Orillia, started their professional music career in Calgary, Alberta as "Even Steven" in 1978. Since that time they have performed steadily, opening for such artists as The Good Brothers, Trooper, The Stampeders, "Hotel California", Cassandra Vasik, and The Martels. Along the way, they have recorded albums entitled "Natural Act" (cassette tape) and "What I Am" (CD released in 1998) - all of their own original material. Canadian legend Gordon Lightfoot's 1998 album, "A Painter Passing Through", included Steve McEown's composition "I Used To Be A Country Singer". Their unique blend of soft rock, country, some current hits as well as the classics from the 60's and 70's etc... have won them a loyal fan following over the years. Known for their tight harmonies, fine musicianship, and solid song arrangements, "Even Steven" continually pleases audiences of all ages. "I Used To Be A Country Singer"-a conversation with a hotel chambermaid which turns into a sing-along-was penned by Steve McEown, who incidentally, hails from the same area as Lightfoot.
