Born December 31, 1928, in Lundby in Gothenburg, is a Swedish linguist, professor of linguistics computing at Göteborg University 1972-1993, member of the Swedish Academy since 1980 and its permanent secretary from 1986 to 1999. He was elected in the Swedish Academy on October 2, 1980, and took office on December 20, same year, as successor to Carl Ivar Ståhle on chair no. 3.
