Substax is electronic soul for the film in your head. The Auckland, New Zealand act have created a sound which is all fusion and no chaser, morphing and twisting the genres of breakbeat, soul, funk and house music. Anyone with respect for 70's Disco/Funk cult movies, the wizardry of Sly and the Family Stone, Derrick May's philosophy on dance music, rolling breaks and future soul might just develop an obsessive taste for the sound of Substax. The audio trio of Nick Farrands, Jason Johnston & Claudia Gunn are currently working on their debut album due for release on Sugarlicks Recordings Aotearoa in March 2005. The track Dennis Hoppa features on the recent Sugarlicks compilation Pacific Ultrasound 2017. Substax have been raised on a diet of funk and are currently searching for the perfect dish.
