A.k.a. Sulata Foa'i-Amiatu
Sulata is full Tokeluan, born in New Zealand. She began singing at a very early age with her 3 older sisters at church and family functions. In 1995 she won most promising female vocalist at the New Zealand music awards and was nominated for top female vocalist in 1996, 1998 and 1999. She was in alt hiphop group Colony, and when that group split in the mid 90s, she embarked on a solo career, recording an album, Kia Koe, for Deepgrooves. In the late 1990s she joined Te Vaka (led by her cousin Opetaia Foa'i) and has toured the UK and Europe extensively with them, stunning international audiences with her powerful and unique voice.
