A.k.a. Susan King
Susan studied lute at the Sydney University Conservatorium of Music with Robert Clancy and Tommie Andersson, then in New Zealand with William Bower. She furthered her studies with Jacob Lindberg (U.K.), Nigel North (U.S.A.), Claire Antonini in Paris and Hopkinson Smith. Susan has a special interest in new music for lute and often works in collaborative projects with composers. Her first collaborations were with esteemed Australian composer Robert Allworth (O.A.M. - Order of Australia) who wrote two works for Susan, "Memories of Rain for Solo Lute" and "Concerto for Susan Jones for French Baroque Lute and Baroque Ensemble". These have been recorded on JADE Records. Her recent collaborations have been with UK electronic composer Matthew Leigh Embleton on the "Music for Lute and Laptop Project", with French composer Jean-Christoph Rosaz on a work titled "If I Could See Perfume" based on a poem by Tasmanian poet Judith E.P. Johnson and with U.S.A born, Tasmanian based composer Karlin Greenstreet Love and their "Lute on the Géographé" project. Susan always includes modern lute music in her concert programs and in 2013 she gave a concert of modern lute music at the Utrecht Early Music Festival which included a live performance of "Music for Lute and Laptop" with composer Matthew Leigh Embleton. Susan is also the Director of the Tasmanian Lute Festival and maintains a bibliographic website called "Contemporary and Modern Lute Music" which lists all music written for lute since 1815.
