Producer of Dance
A.k.a. Alastair Lindsay
Switchshift is London based music producer Alastair Lindsay, a relative newcomer to the breaks scene but who has been producing music professionally for the video game industry since 1993. After being ‘fed’ cd’s of breaks tunes for a couple of years by a friend, he realised this was the music for him. The sequencer and sampler were cranked up and work began in the summer of 2000. The initial promotion of Switchshift started via the World Wide Web, which gained great feedback from the outset. The first track ‘freQ uent’ was snapped up by Maui Motion Arts and used on their film ‘First Light’, a film about surfing and surf culture around the world. In early 2001 Switchshift was announced winner of the Hybrid remix competition run by Future Music magazine/Roland UK. This great response to the music led to demo cd's being sent out to record labels, and within a short space of time two of the four tracks were licensed by Freakaboom Records. The first track ‘Electric Drop’ was released in August 2001 and, with the help of the 2 Sinners remix on the flip side, was soon getting plenty of playlisting worldwide. With initial support from B.L.I.M, Rennie Pilgrem and Stanton Warriors, to name a few, there then followed, excellent magazine reviews and numerous dj chart listings. This was a great start to Switchshift's vinyl outings.
