Album US 2014 on Yours Truly label
Dance (Tech House, Trip Hop, Downtempo)
Letter accompanying the mix reads: I made this the day before I left Frankfurt. I was alone in an empty flat and it was 4 in the morning. There was a Radisson Blue hotel sign by my window shining through some pretty strong fog making my room quite a weird colour. I sent it over to Fred who was in Tokyo and he listened to it for a minute and then called me and asked if he could play piano over it. He did and then sent it back and that is what this is. It includes the first song I made in Germany, a good slice of the Kalkbrenner’s (the second most important brothers in my life after the Nevilles) and some absolute tunes made by this guy I met in the smoking area of Robert Johnson, called Abraham. He is brilliant. The last song is called Sun & Rain. This mix is for the Rain. I included someone else’s poetry in the mix, he narrated the entire night and morning, in unmistakable pessimism. The german I wrote is a translation of a couple of the lines that seemed pretty relevant: ‚I see smoke out of my window, time to quit, it could be fire…I may make Paris in the morning‘. Sending this from Paris. Jim
