Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck Austrian symphony orchestra, based in Innsbruck. The "Stadtorchester Innsbruck" was founded in 1893 on the occasion of the "Erste Tiroler Landesausstellung" by the then 75-year-old music teacher Martin Spörr. A number of ambitious conductors, such as Max Köhler, Emil Schennich, Rudolf Kattnigg and Fritz Weidlich, helped the orchestra overcome the difficult interwar years. After 1945 Weidlich reunited the scattered members of the Innsbrucker Symphonieorchester and revived the town's music scene. His successor Kurt Rapf conducted the first subscription concerts in 1953 and the first concerts in the rebuilt Stadtsaal, Innsbruck, which was finished in 1956. In 1954 Hans Knappertsbusch acted as the orchestra's first guest conductor. After Rapf Dr. Robert Wagner (4) became chief conductor, followed by Karl Randolf and Edgar Seipenbusch, who moved the symphony orchestra to the Kongresshaus Innsbruck, Saal Tirol, expanded its repertory and raised artistic standards. In 1997 the orchestra officially adapted its current name "Tiroler Symphonieorchester Innsbruck".
