"Synthesis" is a musical melding of some of the finest young musicians at Brigham Young University. The Ensemble had the good fortune to tour Japan and China, Scandinavia, The Soviet Union, Eastern Europe and Western Europe twice. They performed in Montreux 1988 (Big Band Night), at the North Sea Festival in Holland, at the Antibes Jazz Festival in the French Riviera, the Pori International Jazz Festival in Pori, Finland, the Kongsberg Jazz Festival in Norway, the Lysekil Jazz Festival in Sweden, the Riga Jazz Festival in Latvia and the Parnu Jazz Festival in Estonia. Awards received by "Synthesis" include first place at both the Pacific Coast Collegiate Jazz Festival in Berkely, California and the Lionel Hampton Jazz Ferstival in Moscow, Idaho.
